Shorrock Developments Ltd
51 Preston New Road, Blackburn, Lancashire, England
Shorrock owned a carpet tufting machine manufacturing business in Blackburn before starting up Shorrock Developments
Believed to be the first company in the UK producing and selling airband radio’s (I understand the individual was called Stan Shorrock)
Shorrock VHF Receiver – The three band cost £36 and the one band was £26 in 1962
The Shorrock VHF Receiver was based on a Perdio PR100
Shorrock Navigator Portable – Cost £42 in 1962
Shorrock Mk. V Receiver – Cost £36 in 1963
This radio is a Decca TP85 modified to receive the Aircraft Band, with a plastic label stuck over the original dial. The Decca cost £24.
One advert says a single VHF band version was available for £28
Another advert said there’s a Shorrock Mk V with a red cabinet (possibly one of the last Mk V built)
Shorrock MK 6
First seen advertised in 1966
The following was provided by an employee who worked for Shorrock for 6 months, around 1966-1967
The Shorrock MK 6 was based on a Philips FM radio, which Shorrock purchased for £20. Conversion took around 25 minutes. Basically modifying the frequency range, changing the FM discriminator to an A.M detector, putting a new tuning window in and checking the frequency tracking across the band.
Does anyone know what model Philips radio the Shorrock MK 6 was based on?
Model 102
Although not an airband radio I did want to include the Model 102 as Shorrock were advertising them for sale in 1964. This is actually a Perdio Multiband 102.
